UW-Waukesha Breaks Ground on Field House Expansion

WAUKESHA – One of the first buildings on the 34-year-old campus, the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha Field House is set for more than a facelift.  An official groundbreaking ceremony for an addition and renovation will be held Wednesday, April 26, at 1:00 p.m.“We are holding this ceremony to thank the county board for its generosity and the University of Wisconsin for its support in this project,” campus dean Brad Stewart said. “We also want to show them what type of facilities we will have for the campus and the local community.”Members of the Waukesha County Board, representatives from the County Executive’s office, local area state legislators, project architects, and University of Wisconsin Colleges Chancellor Bill Messner are among the invited guests.Nearly 10,000 sq. feet will be added to the 22,745-sq.-foot Field House, including three new classrooms, a fitness center with the latest exercise equipment, a lobby and concessions for sporting events. The rest of the building will be remodeled or reconditioned to meet the changing needs of students. It will be open for local organizations and community members to use as well.

Bray Associates Architects, Sheboygan, drew the plans for the $2.2 million construction project funded by the county. The state, which provides staffing for the University of Wisconsin campus, will contribute another $420,000 in equipment and furnishings for the new facility.
