WAUKESHA For the second year, the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha and La Casa de Esperanza will join together in offering a College Bound program for students entering 7th-12th grades and specifically meant to attract minority and disadvantaged students to college. The program will run for three weeks, July 21-August 8, with most daytime, structured activities held at the university campus and late afternoon and evening recreational and life skills activities at the La Casa facility.
From 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. students will participate in workshops on exploring career options, developing study skills, and obtaining scholarships and financial aid. They will experience other college campuses, visiting several and spending the night at UW-Milwaukee and UW-Richland Center. In addition, they will be exposed to service learning and other extracurricular activities. Lunch will be provided.
The recreational part of the day at La Casa runs from 3:00-9:00 p.m. Buses will shuttle the students between the two facilities and will be available for some pick-up and drop-off as well.
Designed to encourage highly motivated students to consider attending college after their high school graduation, the program offers priority admission to the first two weeks of the session to 9th-12th grade students.
