Hervert Named ‘Coach of Year’ for 3rd Time

WAUKESHA – For the third time, University of Wisconsin-Waukesha assistant professor of physical education and women’s basketball coach Jack Hervert has been named Junior College Coach of the Year by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). He will receive the award at the organization’s annual hall of fame banquet to be held in Madison on October 9. He was coach of the year in 1998 and 2002 as well.

Hervert has coached the UW-Waukesha women Cougars for 14 seasons and compiled a 311-88 win/loss record. Last year the team went 26-3 for the season. In the past 12 years, his teams have earned 11 Wisconsin Collegiate Conference titles and appeared in ten WJCAA tournaments, winning five championships and twice finishing as runner-up.

In 1998, Hervert became a member of the executive board of the WBCA, the same year the group honored him with his first and the organization’s inaugural Coach of the Year award.

A physical education graduate of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, Hervert earned a bachelor’s degree in 1983 and a master’s in 1985 and added a minor in health education in 1989 from UW-Stevens Point. In 1998 he joined the faculty at UW-Waukesha.

A native of Tomahawk, he began his coaching career at schools in the Wausau area. Hervert lives in Milwaukee.
