WAUKESHA – Thomas Hinshaw, an architect with
the National Aeronautics & Space Administration, will speak at the
University of Wisconsin-Waukesha Tuesday, February 12, at 7 p.m. on
“Living in Space.”
A Visions & Expressions presentation sponsored
by the campus Lectures & Fine Arts Committee, the program will be
held in the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, located in the Fine Arts Center
on campus at 1500 N. University Dr., and is open to the public at no
charge.
Hinshaw, who has been with NASA at the John H.
Glenn Research Center in Ohio since 1986, currently is working on
the Ares Launch Vehicle project, making it possible to conduct
further space exploration. The Ares I will take astronauts to the
moon and Mars, while the Ares V, which can lift more than 286,000
pounds to low Earth orbit, will deliver large-scale hardware – from
the lunar landing craft and materials for establishing a moon base
to food, fresh water, and other staples needed to support human life
and exploration beyond Earth’s orbit.
A project manager in the facilities division at
NASA, Hinshaw is responsible for leading the development of guide
specifications and software used for construction projects
throughout NASA and also coordinates with the Tri-Agency Services in
establishing construction standards for the Army Corps of Engineers,
Navy, and NASA.
A graduate of Kent State University, Hinshaw is
a registered architect in Ohio and holds a National Council of
Architectural Registration Board certificate.
