WAUKESHA – The University of Wisconsin System
Board of Regents is scheduled to approve an annual operating budget
on June 5 and set tuition rates for the 2008-09 academic year at
this week’s meeting in Milwaukee.
UW System President Kevin P. Reilly is
recommending a budget based on the state’s 2007-09 biennial budget,
approved last year with bipartisan support. Reilly’s proposed budget
would freeze tuition for the second consecutive year for 12,500
Wisconsin resident students enrolled at the 13 freshman-sophomore UW
Colleges campuses, with the largest number of them at UW-Waukesha.
With its tuition rate frozen at the 2006 level,
UW-Waukesha will remain the affordable choice for incoming students,
who then can complete their baccalaureate degrees at any four-year
UW or private college. The tuition at UW-Waukesha will be $4,268
again for 2008-09. This is approximately $800 less than the
four-year comprehensive UW campuses and $2,300 less than the tuition
at UW-Madison and UW-Milwaukee.
UW-Waukesha’s dean and chief executive officer,
Patrick Schmitt expressed his pleasure with the request, saying,
“This forward-looking action means that one of the best higher
educations in the state remains readily affordable, ensuring access
to the UW for all our students.”
