Auditors & Senior Citizen Auditor Admissions Information
Auditors & senior citizen auditors are special students enrolling in courses on a non-graded basis. Students taking only audit courses during a term, pay a reduced tuition rate. Senior auditors enroll for no charge.
- Auditors are allowed to register on a space available basis, and instructor permission is required
- Auditors are not allowed in Distance Education courses
- Auditors are responsible for payment of any special course fees
- Senior auditors must be age 60 by the first day of the course, and must qualify as a Wisconsin Resident for tuition purposes *

Determination of residency for tuition purposes is governed by section 36.27(2) of the Wisconsin Statutes. Students who have been bona fide residents of the state of Wisconsin for at least 12 months immediately preceding the semester they enroll in a UW institution are Wisconsin residents for tuition purposes. Individuals attending an educational institution while attempting to establish bona fide Wisconsin residency are considered non-residents. Regulations determining residency for tuition purposes are different from those established for voting or paying taxes. Students may appeal for exemption from non-resident tuition.
